Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

This is going to sound stupid but someone else had set this up for me (they are no longer around) and I can’t seem to find the wp-content directory. Where would I access this. Thank you
In the folder where you installed WordPress.
Ahhhh, that’s my problem. The people who installed it did not do it on this computer. Can I re-install wordpress on this computer without destroying the work that has already been done?
You don’t install WordPress on your computer. It is installed on the remote server that houses your site.
Ok. Found it. Changed the permission to the different settings. No luck, still getting the same message when I try to upload.
Which folder did you change the permissions on?
I went to wp-content and at first just changed the uploads setting ( which was set at 644) and when that did not work I changed all the settings in that folder. I tried all the settings you mentioned but still no luck.
Contact your hosts for assistance. You may have a folder ownership issue.
Thank you…spoke to them. Had to reset the location of the uploads to the default settings and it worked. Thanks for your help.
