upload directory does not exist.

    I am getting this error message when trying to upload images and files …

    ‘Unable to create directory /usr/www/users/ced874/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/04. Is its parent directory writable by the server?’

    How do I resolve this. I cannot add images to my posts.

    chmod /wp-content and uplods folder to 777
    upload an image
    should be able now to chmod back to 755 for security
