I’ve upgraded to 2.5.1 following the extended upgrade instructions (i.e., dectivated plugins, deleted wp* files, etc. including wp-content/plugins/widgets folder), but now I can’t access my dashboard and I get this error message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp_register_sidebar_widget() in /home/crissxro/public_html/wilx/wp-admin/includes/dashboard.php on line 32

I have K2 theme installed, don’t know if that makes any difference.

This is the second time I’ve tried to upgrade to 2.5. The last time I had to roll back to 2.3.3. Any advice please?

  • Well, the instructions always say do NOT delete/touch the wp-content folder…

Regardless, the “undefined function” error means only one thing: files not uploaded (missing) or files corrupted during the download/unzip/upload.

And yes, K2 can make a difference: it’s a different animal than the normal WP themes.

I didn’t delete the wp-content folder just the widgets folder inside it as advised in the upgrade instructions because “The Sidebar Widgets code conflicts with the built-in widget ability”. Should I try reinstalling the widgets folder?

Even in 2.3.3 the widgets are built in, so no need for the plugin.

The secret to a successful upgrade to 2.5 with the K2 theme is to uninstall K2 and revert to WordPress default theme before upgrading.
