Upgrade Disaster

Hi,

I’m a new WordPress user and had only just got started with it when the upgrade was released.

Having totally confused myself trying to upgrade the version I had I decided to delete the blog I had started (as there wasn’t much on it) and down load the new version as if I was starting from scratch.

A foolish thing to do it seems as now I can’t see the blog under the URL that I use and I can’t log in to the admin as I’ve stupidly deleted the file that contained my log in details along with everything else … I realised as I saw it deleting and couldn’t do anything about it.

Please could you tell me who I can contact to get hold of my log in details.

Also I have been logging in off my blog home page so I don’t have the address for the control panel either please could you tell me that.

Also why can’t I see the basic blog template at the URL I use?

Total nightmare … I thought it was all going too well!

Please give us your url.
In any case, your login screen can be found at your url, the folder in which you put WordPress and then /wp-admin.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The url is http://www.tots-talk.co.uk

I’ve tried putting /wp-admin on the end and it’s not working so I think I’ve really broken something somewhere.

Any help would be appreciated.

Error 403 – Forbidden
You tried to access a document for which you don’t have privileges.

That doesn’t sound like a WP problem! Was your blog located in the root? Is anything there when you go to your server using FTP?

I’m using Dreamweaver and the remote view, which is what’s held on the server if I understand it correctly, is the same as the local view which is what is shown on my computer.

I’ve checked my passwords and root url etc and everything it correct.

Please could you tell me how to clear my cache … perhaps the old site that I’ve deleted is confusing the issue.

I went to your URL and I get 404 as well so clearing your cache isn’t going to do you much.

even http://www.tots-talk.co.uk/wp-admin/install.php get me a 404

I would suggest deleting everything but you config.php file and starting from scratch.

I’m not sure what you’re talking about, but I have never worked with a local server, nor did I know that Dreamweaver also works with dynamic pages (as far as I know, it’s just an html editor). All I can tell you is that I think that your didn’t upload anything to your webserver (or you used a folder that you didn’t tell about) and we can’t look at your computer of course. Cache is (I believe) just a browser thing and has nothing to do with Dreamweaver. In IE you just click “extra” “options” and clear files, etc. If you use Browzar your cache is cleared every time you close the application, Firefox also has that option.

In any case, it seems that you have a problem that I either don’t understand. I can only have a look at the WP installation online and see if I run into something that I saw before.

So, more information for the more expert readers of this forum might be helpfull. Are you working with a local server, did you already install WP on your webserver? What about the Dreamweaver story, etc.

Dreamweaver remote view shows you the same thing you would see if you logged into your hosted account and used the file manager.

You can see all the files and directories with either so you should be able to see wp-admin, where it is and how to get there.

If you are missing files, especially wp-config, on the server you can try to FTP them from your computer but, it may be more prudent to delete all the files on the server and reinstall WP.

Sorry, I have to contradict you: reinstalling is advised ONLY if you don’t care about your old blog – the process means wiping out all the existing content!
