• Hello,
I’m relatively new to working with wordpress and managing our company’s website. I received an email from wordpress requesting that: “Please update your site at http://socspa.com to WordPress 4.0.1.”
I just wanted to find out if this will change anything? Or do I need to do anything to prepare for the update? My wordpress skills are very limited and I would hate to update and it cause a problem that I am not prepared to handle ASAP.

    Thanks!

    some actions to take:
back up your website (files and database)
check to see if your website is using any very old themes or old plugins that have not been updated or are no longer supported?

what WordPress version are you running now?

    We are currently running 3.9.3

Any advice on how to back up website? And how to tell if we are running old themes or old plugins? I know it has also asked us to update some of our old plugins – again, I’m also nervous that it could create a problem that I can’t fix. Should I update the plugins first?

use a tool like Vaultpress or Backupbuddy for automated backups

are you using a theme that was custom built for your website? if yes, then check with theme developer for compatibility with new wordpress version.

please provide a list of the plugins you have installed.
