I wouldn’t be have this problem if early versions of WP would allow you to update, or at least inform you of available updates! 🙂

I’ve been using this old version of WP 1.2 for a while now:

    http://tomhanser.wordpress.com/

But I want to copy/move it to my web domain:

    http://tomhanser.com/blog

I just installed WP 3.3.1 in this folder, thanks to my web hosting firm.

I exported out an XML file from the current live site (WP v1.2) but I cannot import it into the newly installed WP v3.3.1. It wants me to “update” but I can’t see any dashboard function to do this.

    Need help, please.

    Thanks!

  • I believe the codex covers what versions can be updated from safely….that said, the old Db file can be parsed properly with some help.

    Thanks.

The Codex upgrade instructions refer to accessing the files via FTP, but I’ve never had access to these files since they’re hosted by WordPress.

I may have to “punt” and start the new blog from scratch.

Any other methods of moving a WP-hosted blog to another location, intact?

You need to apply your requests for support here, this forum is for those who self host with .org not .com.

That said I reviewed the unedited original post and thank you for our time.
