updates lose code customization

    I have the message that version 4.3.0 of Sydney is available. However when I click on update I get the following message: Updating this theme will lose any code customizations you have made. ‘Cancel’ to stop, ‘OK’ to update.
    What code gets lost? If I have code that will be deleted, how can I update and still retain customizations?

    Thank you for contacting us!

    Code customizations that are lost when you update the theme are those added directly in the theme files, such as in the functions.php or styles.css files.

    Customizations added in a child theme or those in the Customizer won’t be lost.

    I hope this clarifies.
