Hello Paul,
Thank you for contacting WooCommerce support.
I understand you’re using WooCommerce v9.7.1 and during the update, you’re seeing this error:
Update failed: Could not copy file. woocommerce/assets/images/shipping_partners/packlink-column.svg.This error usually means that the plugin update failed. I recommend deleting the WooCommerce plugin and installing it again. This way all files will be downloaded again.
If the issue persists after reinstalling the plugin, contact your host and ask them to review your server for any file permission or storage space issues.
Please let me know how it goes.
Best regards.
Thanka for the reply.
If I delete the Plugin it will loose all of my personal store settings?
How do I get around this?
Thanks,
Paul
Hi there!
I totally understand your concern! No worries — deleting the WooCommerce plugin will not remove your store data or settings. All of your products, orders, and store configuration are stored safely in your site’s database, not in the plugin files themselves.
That said, as a best practice, I recommend making a full site backup before proceeding — just to be extra safe.
Once backed up, you can go ahead and delete the WooCommerce plugin, and then reinstall it.
Let me know how that goes. There’s no delete option on the plugin?
Hi there!
In order to delete a plugin:- First, you’ll need to deactivate the WooCommerce plugin from your site.
- Once it’s deactivated, the “Delete” option will appear — go ahead and delete the plugin.
- After deleting, you can reinstall WooCommerce by going to Plugins → Add New, searching for “WooCommerce,” and clicking Install Now, then Activate.
If you run into issues during this process, you can also try using the WP Rollback plugin to revert to a previous version and then update to the latest version again. This can help in case something went wrong during the initial update.
Let me know how it goes or if you get stuck anywhere!
I have no ‘Delete’ option there?
Hi @cecil108 ,
Thanks for getting back to us.
To delete the plugin, you’ll first need to deactivate it. Once it’s deactivated, the system should show a Delete option—something like this:
If you’re not seeing that option, could you share a screenshot of what you see under the WooCommerce plugin tab? That’ll help us take a closer look.
Let us know what you find!
Hi,
I’m not seeing the ‘Delete’ option. I have deactivated the other plugins that use WooCommerce, now the ‘Delete’ button is showing up, but I can’t delete it?
My screenshot is at https://bitl.to/4Mvu
How do I get around this?
Hi @cecil108,
Thanks for sharing the screenshot. The reason you’re unable to click the delete button is because other plugins on your site depend on WooCommerce, which causes the button to appear greyed out.
To resolve this, I recommend putting your site in maintenance mode using a “Coming Soon” plugin. Once that’s done, go ahead and deactivate all plugins that are connected to WooCommerce — such as Facebook for WooCommerce, Stripe for WooCommerce, PayPal for WooCommerce, WooCommerce Subscriptions, and WooPayments.
After deactivating those plugins, the delete button for WooCommerce should become active. You can then delete and reinstall WooCommerce, or alternatively, download it directly from WordPress.org and upload it manually to reinstall.
I have enabled Nifty Coming Soon & Maintenance Page and deactivated all plugins, I still can’t delete WooCommerce as per the screenshot at https://bitl.to/4N6V
What’s going on?
Hi @cecil108 ,
It looks like there are some conflicts on your site that are preventing you from deleting the WooCommerce plugin.
In this case, you can either contact your hosting provider to help remove the plugin, or follow this guide to locate and delete the WooCommerce folder manually via File Manager or SFTP: https://woocommerce.com/document/disable-plugins-without-admin-access/#disable-plugins-with-file-manager-or-sftp
Once the plugin has been removed, try reinstalling WooCommerce from the WordPress plugin repository to see if the issue persists.
Please give that a try and let us know how it goes!
I am not sure what happened, it’s finally updated to 9.8.1 which is the latest version?
Thanks for all of your help
Hi @cecil108,
Thank you for the update—I’m really glad to hear you were able to sort out the issue!
