Have you tried:
1. deactivating all plugins
2. switching to the Twenty Eleven theme
3. re-running the upgrade
I wish I could, but I get to the same “update wordpress database” page everytime. I’m kinda stuck…:-/
Can you check your database and tell me what database version number you have stored in the wp-options table under the option name db_version?
Did you mean this line?
INSERT INTO wp_options VALUES (59, 0, ‘db_version’, ‘17516’, ‘yes’);
Yes. That confirms that your database has not been upgraded to 3.2.1.
Try:
– switching to the Twenty Ten theme.
– resetting the plugins folder by phpMyAdmin.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.
– re-running the upgrade manually using wp-admin/upgrade.php.
Been on vacation, but back to this again, of you still can help.
The problem is that I CAN’T login to switch a theme, because I’m stopped in the login process by the upgrade thing:

Can you still help?
You can switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.
Ok, but the resetting the plugins folder in phpMYAdmin, I cannot find the “active_plugins” row inside the option name column.
I think I found it, but didn’t say exactly the same as described in the resetting explanation – and nothing has change. Is it a solution to delete my installation and install it again and importing the old database? Just one problem there, the database is 75 MB and I don’t think my provider will let me upload that much.
The screenshot link you gave above doesn’t actually have a screenshot.
