You can try to do it manual. You can download the WordPress files from this website and upload it manual in your DirectAdmin of CPanel. You can do it also automaticly by FTP software like Adobe Dreamweaver or Filezilla.
Dont upload the wp-config file and wp config sample. This is your file to connect it to the Database.
Be sure you have a back-up of your website and database before you changed something!

Yes, if you try to update WordPress, a theme or plugins and the update fail you will get the “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.” error message.
There’s two ways to solve this issue.
1.) Wait it out- you can wait for 10 minutes and return back to your site.
or
2.) You can delete the .maintenance file in the core files of WordPress- login via ftp and find the .maintenance file to delete it.
