You can use unsubscribe placeholders:

You can manage subscribers in tour dashboard: Newsletters > Subscribers.
Well that will only remove from the database I assume. So if I then reimport a list of emails of which one is a user that has previous unsubscribed, then they will just get added again.
So what I want to know is, is there an unsubscribe list which prevents a person ever getting emails or prevents their email from being imported into a list.
I import emails based on different factors from our customer db. For example, ones that buy a certain product or buy over a certain quantity. If I remove them now either manually or if they unsubscribe then there is a danger they will get imported again when I create a database and import in the future.
So can there be a special whitelist / blacklist where emails in that list can never be sent anything?
You can see the list of unsubscribers in: Newsletters > Subscribers > Import/export subscribers button (on top of page), then scroll till bottom of page and export the list.
Ok I tested the unsubscribe link and then checked to see if I could see a list to show where those people had been unsubscribed. There is no reference to a list of unsubscribe people but it does seem that the email I unsubscribed was just removed from the DB/subscribed list.
Hence my original issue is that if i no re-import a list, of which that email i just unsubscribed is included, it will just get added again and they’ll get an email, even though they unsubscribed.
Please can you let me know if you understand the situation I’m trying to describe?
I understand your issue.
When someone unsubscribes his/her email address will go into a database table that stored all the unsubscribed emails. As I said, you can see this list of unsubscribed emails in: Newsletters > Subscribers > Import/export subscribers button (on top of page), then scroll till bottom of page and see the list.
Then, later, when you import a new list of subscribers in dashboard, the plugin will check if emails are already stored in unsubscribed table: each email found in this table will be not imported. You can try to import subscribers: for each already-unsubscribed email you will receive a warning message on screen.
I hope to make me understand (sorry for my bad english…).
