Unsubscribe

When I add user emails manually to backend (from the subscribe 2, “Subscribers” tab, than “Add/Remove Subscribers” it allows me to add emails but once they are added, how is someone supposed to optout or unsubscribe if they decide to after I have added them manually?
Thanks Russ

By using the form that gets deployed in the Widget or via the shortcode – for you to see it make sure to log out of your blog once you’ve placed either.
Hi Mattyrob,
I have no idea what you are talking about. I have logged off and on and the question still remains the same. Please clarify.
Thanks
Have you followed all of the steps in the Installation Instructions? In particular Step 7. That would hopefully give you a greater understanding of what I’m talking about and is also critical to the plugin working.
Hi mattyrob,
Are you the developer? I am not sure what a “Token” is. However, Subscribe2 has been up and running successfully on my site for several months. I had a web site consultant add it for me. My problem is when I add users/s on my end. The people that I have added have no way (to my knowledge and through experiments) to Unsubscribe from future mailing lists.
In my experiments the added user does not receive an email after I have added them to the mailing list and the email that one receives after I post a new blog post does not indicate on the bottom of the email where and/or how they may “unsubscribe” or “opt out” from future mailings.
Are we on the same page here? Thank you for trying to help.
Russ
I was the developer until about 6 months ago but I still hang around to try to help people.
If you add users manually then now notification to admins or users is generated.
You can add a link to the email that links to a page allowing people to unsubscribe but you need to create that page on your blog. It seems you are a steep learning curve now if someone else set this up for you.
Essentially Subscribe 2 uses a WordPress Widget or a Shortcode (your preference) to communicate with your users – the output of each is dynamic and varies. So, initially it’s a form that takes and email address and had ‘subscribe’ and ‘unsubscribe’ buttons – that would save you having to manually add and remove users. Once they fill out he form that are told an email is on the way and when they click the confirmation link in the email the process is completed.
So, if you add the Widget or create a WordPress page with the shortcode you will be a lot closer to having your subscribers manage themselves.
Hi mattyrob,
Thanks for sticking around and helping me! 🙂
You can also test this yourself by simply checking the website on a different browser in which you originally signed up for Subscribe2. For instance, if you signed up for Subscribe 2 on google Chrome browser, the browser will recognize that you have an account with Subscribe 2 and will offer you the option of unsubscribing directly from my web page on that browser. However, if you check the same web page from Firefox or a different browser there is no indication or option to Unsubscribe.@ “You can add a link to the email that links to a page allowing people to unsubscribe but you need to create that page on your blog”
Can you point me to a “how to” page or instructions on how to do this? Or is it simply under “Templates” tab?
Many thanks,Russ
I’d love to see your site but you haven’t provided a link.
To create a WordPress page go to the WordPress admin area, then the Pages menu and Add New. Then put the Subscribe2 shortcode in the content and publish.
Hi mattyrob,
My website is funpawcare (dot)com please let me know your thoughts after you have looked at the site.
Thanks
Russ
Just been to your website homepage, right at the top of the sidebar on the right is a heading that says “Subscribe to our Blog” and under that, if you are logged out, is a form that takes an email address with 2 buttons, one to ‘subscribe’ and one to ‘unsubscribe’.
Looks to be set up just fine. As I said above, if you cannot see that input form, then you need to log out of your site.
Hi mattyrob,
All of what you wrote I know already know however it not address the problem or questions I have.
If I add your email address right now to the Subscribe2 list to receive my blog posts, when I post a blog and you receive that blog post, the email in which the blog is sent to you in does not offer a “unsubscribe” or “optout” feature.
Why? And what can I do so that when I sign people up for my blog (not them) they have an opportunity down the road to unsubscribe if they want to?
Thanks
Russ
I have addresses both of these questions above but clearly not in a way that allows understanding.
The form that you say you are aware of has an unsubscribe button. This is what your subscribers need to use “down the road to unsubscribe”.
The emails don’t automatically contain an ‘unsubscribe’ link but you can edit the template and add a link back to your home page with some text advising people to use that form in the sidebar and click the unsubscribe button. Is that any clearer?
Yes thank you. However it is unrealistic to ask people to go through all of those steps just to unsubscribe.
These extra steps are what cause many people (including myself) to click the one-click “spam” button in their email provider if it is too difficult or onerous to remove oneself from a mailing list. I would implore you to consider changing this feature or at least allowing an individual to abide by the industry standard best practices by including a link in each and every email allowing someone to opt out independently. Without having to navigate to a web site and find a form and go through these extra steps.
Yes, the form is on my web site however it is moot if they did not sign up directly (themselves) and from that browser. For instance, I signed up to receive blog notifications via Goolge Chorme yet Firefox and IE do not recognize my account.
Thanks
Russ
As you already know I’m no longer the developer so I can’t really change this in the free version. Interestingly I’m working on a one click unsubscribe in the HTML version though. I’ll see where the development cycle takes me.
Thank you. Is there a paid version that offers this functionality and/or more? I would be interested in that.
Thank you for taking the time and speaking with me,
Russ
Subscribe2 HTML has, in the past, offered HTML emails as default for public subscribers. Now I am free to spend more time on that version alone I’m working on new features. The email notification unsubscribe links are one such feature but that part is still under development and is not stable enough to release yet.
The topic ‘Unsubscribe’ is closed to new replies.
