• While the plugin might work for some, you have to be careful not to fall into their unscrupulous upgrade tactics. Over the course of 5 days, I received two suspended email notices. After talking to these guys about the emails they are telling me that the account will not be suspended but their email scare tactics paint a different story. This is the subject of the last email.

ACTION REQUIRED] Your License Will be Suspended

    The dashboard says this below:

Anti-Spam by CleanTalk trial period ends, please upgrade to next year!

These are the tactics they use to get you to pay. This is not the type of thing you do to a potential customer.

This goes against what WordPress rules state.

    Plugin has been removed.

    Hi @argosmedia,

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback!

We’d love to clear up how our plugin works. CleanTalk is a free plugin distributed under the GPLv2 license, but it connects to a cloud-based anti-spam service (SaaS), which is a paid product. We always aim to be fully transparent about this, which is why it’s mentioned right in the plugin annotation and on our WordPress directory page: https://wordpress.org/plugins/cleantalk-spam-protect

To help users decide if the service is right for them, we provide a free trial period before any paid subscription begins. Plugins that integrate with cloud services like this are fully allowed in the WordPress repository – you can read more about the guidelines here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/is-this-plugin-free-to-use-after-trial/#post-5336850

Our goal is to offer fast, strong, and comprehensive anti-spam protection at a very affordable price for every WordPress site.

If you have any other questions or if there’s anything we can do to help, please feel free to reach out.

    Wishing you all the best!
