    From what I can tell, they’re right to ask you to reach out to the theme’s designer. jQuery is just a javascript library which WordPress provides for any theme to use, since it’s also used by the Dashboard.

    If the slowness is on the front end of your site, then it’s more than likely the theme’s interactions with jQuery causing the problem.

    However, it’s not a theme file but a core WordPress file so I’m asking about it here now.

    You can explore this relationship between WordPress and the issue by deactivating all of your plugins & switching to the default Twenty Fourteen/ Thirteen theme. Otherwise the issue is likely to be coming from a plugin or theme.
