Hi @daphaneh,
cURL errors are typically hosting related. If you’d like to share the following we can may be able to determine more on this:
- Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred. If using the form please also share your current hosting provider.
- At what stage do you encounter this error (ie. When clicking on the “Sign in with Google button” during setup?
- Do you see any warnings or errors when checking your Site Health status (Tools > Site Health > Status), which differs from your Site Health information requested above? Such errors may include REST endpoint references.
Once we have the above we can advise further on this.
thank your replied

Many thanks for sharing. I’ve checked the details and while nothing stands our with your environment setup I noticed you’re using a hosting provider that offers a free tier. In previous cases we’ve determined that many free hosting providers limit services or outgoing HTTP requests on their free plan.
While I’m awaiting DNS propagation to check your current hosting provider can you share the following:
- Does the same occur from any other WordPress sites on the same hosting platform? If you’re not using the free tier you can use their app installer to setup a new WordPress site
- Have you checked for any limitations with your site and Site Kit services with your hosting provider? As you encounter a
google_api_connection_fail error it may be that access to connect to Google services is restricted at host level.
In the meantime I’ll also let you know what I can determine with more checks from the same hosting platform.
Just to keep you updated on this I can confirm that this is a service level if using the free tier with the same hosting provider, whereby I encounter the same error.
This indicates there is a block at host level. I’ve opened a support topic with the hosting provider to check on this further.
In the meantime please do inform me if you’re on the free tier, and if not check does the same occur from another WordPress site on the same hosting platform.
As we didn’t receive a response I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist.
Note also that I did contact your web hosting provider and if you’re using the free tier this is the cause of you not being able to connect. I encountered the same on their free tier and they confirmed the below:
Please note that you are using the free plan which has the outgoing connections restricted so using cURL is not possible.
