• I have a plugin on my site that allows me to put up an under construction sign, and block access to the site. I had it up, and then my computer decided to die on me. I no longer have access to the site, I simply get blocked by the under construction page.

I am not the super admin, I am simply an admin. I do not have the WordPress download, that is used to create the site.

Is there a way for me to get past this, or do I simply have to wait for the person who owns the site to go in and manually remove the under contruction sign?

    Thanks

  • Do you have FTP access? You can normally rename the maintenance plug-in temporarily to allow you to get in.

Heh.. What? I’m going to assume that since I don’t know what that is that I don’t have it. I’m not the creator of the site. If I did have it, how would I know?

FTP is the way you connect to your web hosting server. You would need to contact the host to get your FTP credentials, and if you’re not the site owner, they probably won’t give them to you.

When you say you’re not the “super admin” – in regular WP installs there is Admin, Editor, Subscriber, etc. Is this a multisite installation?

Have you tried going directly to the login page to log in?

i.e. it may be something like http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin – unless WordPress was installed in a sub-folder. I might be able to help you further if you provide a link to the site.

I managed to get in, I left a copy of the page open on another computer.

    Thanks for your help. 🙂

Glad to hear it! If you would please mark this thread as “resolved” (drop-down menu in the right column) it would be appreciated. Helps everyone keep better track of whose issues are still outstanding. Thanks!
