“Undefined Index” when installing WordPress 4.6

    When installing a fresh, clean copy of WordPress 4.6, I get the following notice when the installation is completed:

    “Notice: Undefined index: a:1:{s:3:”ssl”;b:1;} in /var/www/html/policy/wp-includes/class-requests.php on line 213″

    I have also been getting this same notice on existing instances of WordPress on the same server since I upgraded those instances from 4.5.3. to 4.6. This notice only started appearing on version 4.6. What on the server do I need to change to resolve this notice? We are a college so we run our own servers. This server is running on Red Hat Linux with Apache, MySql, PHP and the SSL is valid and current.

    The transport requires fshockopen or Curl to be enabled to know the transport protocol used. Is one of them enabled ?

    Try MANUALLY updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Please read the Manual Update directions first.

    Tara, we only manually update on this server as I am required to use an RSA key to log in and modify files. Note this also happened on a clean install of 4.6 this morning, and it is still happening after manually updating to 4.6.1. this afternoon. This does not happen on installs or updates of older versions, as we did not have these errors when our instances were running 4.5.3. Our network administrator is going to take Sakar’s advice and make sure Curl and fshockopen are installed on our Red Hat server when he returns tomorrow.

    Sakar, fsockopen is enabled, but the php5-curl module is not installed. cURL is installed on the server, though without the php-curl module, I don’t Apache and PHP can access it. Are both required, or just one of them?

    I also found our Red Hat server is running PHP 5.5.29 and MySQL 5.5.45. Current WordPress recommended versions are PHP 5.6 and MySQL 5.6. We will upgrade the server to PHP 5.6 today, but Red Hat has not released a package for MySQL 5.6 yet, and our network administrator’s policy is to not build these packages from source. So, hopefully, PHP 5.6 and the addition of the php5-curl module will resolve this issue. If anyone has other suggestions as to what to check on our server, let me know.

    Again, almost everything works except the home admin page and the updates page in the admin. The public front end is working, and I can access the rest of the admin area by logging in and navigating to /edit.php after hitting the white screen of death on the home page.
