    Hi! I’ve been having a Yoast-related error when I go into various blog posts for editing and use the Block Editor. This is my error:

    Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Wrong parameters for Exception([string $message [, long $code [, Throwable $previous = NULL]]]) in /home/siemacht/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/wrappers/wp-remote-handler.php:51 Stack trace: #0 /home/siemacht/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/wrappers/wp-remote-handler.php(51): Exception->__construct(‘cURL error 28: …’, ‘http_request_fa…’) #1 /home/siemacht/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/vendor_prefixed/guzzlehttp/guzzle/src/Client.php(230): Yoast\WP\SEO\Wrappers\WP_Remote_Handler->__invoke(Object(YoastSEO_Vendor\GuzzleHttp\Psr7\Request), Array) #2 /home/siemacht/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/vendor_prefixed/guzzlehttp/guzzle/src/Client.php(87): YoastSEO_Vendor\GuzzleHttp\Client->transfer(Object(YoastSEO_Vendor\GuzzleHttp\Psr7\Request), Array) #3 /home/siemacht/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/vendor_prefixed/guzzlehttp/guzzle/src/Client.php(92): YoastSEO_Vendor\GuzzleHttp\Client->sendAsync(Object(YoastSEO_Vendor\Gu in /home/siemacht/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/wrappers/wp-remote-handler.php on line 51

    This error does not seem to impact user experience on my site. If I refresh the page, I go to the Block Editor of the post I want to edit.

    I cleared my cache (CDN) and with SG Optimizer. I deactivated, deleted, reinstalled, and activated Yoast. These actions were per other advice in the support forum.

    What is going on here, and what else can I do? TIA!

  • Hello!

    Sorry for the trouble. This issue typically occurs when the plugin installation or update couldn’t complete correctly. Can you please remove the plugin directly from your site and reinstall it manually by uploading the plugin files via FTP? All your settings are saved in the database so even if you remove the plugin and install it again, your settings are safe.

    Let us know the result.

    I uploaded the plugin files via FTP and I’m still getting the error:

    Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Wrong parameters for Exception([string $message [, long $code [, Throwable $previous = NULL]]]) in /home/siemacht/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/wrappers/wp-remote-handler.php:51 Stack trace: #0 /home/siemacht/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/wrappers/wp-remote-handler.php(51): Exception->__construct(‘cURL error 28: …’, ‘http_request_fa…’) #1 /home/siemacht/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/vendor_prefixed/guzzlehttp/guzzle/src/Client.php(230): Yoast\WP\SEO\Wrappers\WP_Remote_Handler->__invoke(Object(YoastSEO_Vendor\GuzzleHttp\Psr7\Request), Array) #2 /home/siemacht/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/vendor_prefixed/guzzlehttp/guzzle/src/Client.php(87): YoastSEO_Vendor\GuzzleHttp\Client->transfer(Object(YoastSEO_Vendor\GuzzleHttp\Psr7\Request), Array) #3 /home/siemacht/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/vendor_prefixed/guzzlehttp/guzzle/src/Client.php(92): YoastSEO_Vendor\GuzzleHttp\Client->sendAsync(Object(YoastSEO_Vendor\Gu in /home/siemacht/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/wrappers/wp-remote-handler.php on line 51

    Hi,

    When attempting to reinstall the plugin manually via FTP, did you overwrite the plugin folder?

    We’re sorry to hear that you’re still encountering the fatal error. Could you please also check if you have the latest versions of WordPress 5.6, Yoast SEO for WordPress 15.5, the latest versions of your other plugins and themes, and are meeting the plugin requirements?

    Also, just to be sure, we would like to rule out any plugin or theme conflicts that may occur. The fastest way to do this is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Nineteen

    Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    As we can imagine that you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts.

    Thanks for your suggestions! Here are my replies:
    __

    Q: When attempting to reinstall the plugin manually via FTP, did you overwrite the plugin folder?
    A: When reinstalling via FTP, I did OK overwriting maybe 2-3 files. I can’t recall which files they were, but I’m SURE I didn’t overwrite wp-content > plugins.
    __

    I’m using Yoast SEO 15.5 and WordPress 5.6. My PHP version is 7.3.23. My PHP memory limit is 768M. MySQL version is 5.6.40-84.0-log – Percona Server (GPL), Release 84.0, Revision 47234b3. I’m meeting the browser specs. (I’m not using Yoast Premium, so I didn’t check the Premium requirements in the plugin requirements link above.) For the record, Tools > Site Health is Good.
    __

    I followed the plugin conflicts check, and Yoast is causing the issue. Per the plugin conflict check, I should write a bug report. What do you think?

    TIA!

    @erinvanhandel Thanks for your reply and for the additional information.

    Regarding the reinstallation of the plugin, can you please try completely reinstalling the plugin manually by first removing the existing Yoast SEO folder (which is located at /wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/, relative to the root of your WordPress installation), and then replacing it entirely?

    Sometimes during an update if something goes wrong it can cause the plugin’s files to become incomplete or damaged, and replacing the plugin installation entirely will correct that if it is the case.

    We are going ahead and marking this issue as resolved due to inactivity. If you require any further assistance please create a new issue.
