because it doesnt help with images and also if i want to centre the videos etc
If want more control over the video, like alignment, etc, try this plugin:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/vipers-video-quicktags/
As for images, you could just download and upload them. The files won’t be that big. But, you are missing a few fields on that form, which means that something is going wrong.
Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.
If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Default theme (WordPress 1.5 – 2.9.2) or the Twenty Ten theme (WordPress 3.0 and higher) to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can affect the admin panel).

i have tried both disableing all the plugins and chagning back to original theme, but to no avail.
I still cant upload media vie URL
The URL for a download to be posted is located under the Media Library.

i dont think so, i remember on themes i have used before that you could always add the URL or upload it from your computer when you were uploading it straigh into the post.
@togsy: you remember actually moving the files on your server or the files were just loaded from their original location when your posts were viewed by someone?

i think the files were just loaded from their original locatoin, meaning that if there was say a picture on google, i wouldn’t have to download it and upload it, i could just copy and paste the URL for it into the upload via URL section and it would display in the post. the same with videos from url, i wouldn’t have to embed it, i could just add the url of the video.
