    I received this message

Warning: copy(/homepages/3/d487437473/htdocs/Heartfeltwp/wp-admin/includes/update-core.php) [function.copy]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /homepages/3/d487437473/htdocs/Heartfeltwp/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 217

The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.: wp-admin/includes/update-core.php

    Installation Failed

    Any ideas why?

  • check permission in wp-content and wp-content/upgrade

Is there a setting that I can check or do I need to do that in an FTP program?

Thanks. I had to give permission to all files. I did the folder and thinking everything in it has permission but that’s not the case. Thanks

    I’m having a similar alert / warning / problem:

Warning: copy(/home/hetanker/domains/[domainname]/public_html/wp-admin/includes/update-core.php) [function.copy]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/hetanker/domains/[domainname]/public_html/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 200

I deleted the directory ./wp-admin/wp-content/upgrade and made a new one. Then tried again.

Now it says: Directory can’t be created (it says it in Dutch so I’m not 100% sure what it was in English) : /home/hetanker/domains/[domainname]/public_html/wp-content/upgrade/wordpress-3.tmp

    Installation failed

    Any idea’s?

    BTW
Of course I checked if the folder /upgrade had enough privileges.

Sorry I don’t think you’re experiencing the same issue, as the suggestion that resolved the original poster’s issue hasn’t worked for you.

You can create a new thread here: http://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting#postform

Give permission to the files via FTP . That will fix it

OK, I will create a new thread, sorry. (BtW I did use FTP, didn’t help)

Did you do the files or folder? Doing the folder won’t fix it. Select the files and change the properties.

You will need to wait a bit for all the files to be uploaded to the server, which can takes 15 mins. I had to do that a few times because I did not wait

There are no files in the folder… At least, not in /upgrade and I have no idea which others are involved.

Also, I’m not uploading anything to the server, so waiting for files to be uploaded doesn’t help.

Thanks for trying to help though 🙂

    I’m having a idem problem

You need to start up a new thread to discuss that

I cannot upgrade my wordpress site because of:

What can I do about this:
