I originally called this post “Unable to turn on Caching” but I have realised I can’t save any changes in this plugin. However I can in others, Yoast SEO for example.

I tried to save extra usernames in “Immediately block the IP of users who try to sign in as these usernames”. Saved the changes but after I refreshed the page the additional usernames had gone leaving only the originals.

I have had WordFence installed previously with Falcon caching. I recently did a major upgrade to my sites theme and have re-installed WordFence.

Now when I try and apply basic or Falcon caching, when the page refreshes the option have returned to “Disable all performance enhancements”. The same happens if I select “Disable config caching”, which I read in a previous post may help, when the page refreshes the setting is unselected.

I believe this is the relevant part of my htaccess file:
#WFIPBLOCKS – Do not remove this line. Disable Web Caching in Wordfence to remove this data.
    Order Deny,Allow
#Do not remove this line. Disable Web Caching in WordFence to remove this data – WFIPBLOCKS

I have also tried deactivating all plugins, enabling this one and it still will not start. I have also tried using a default 2015 Theme, no luck!

    Hi,

Near the bottom of the Wordfence options page, try turning on “Disable config caching” and save the settings, then try changing some of the other settings again.

If it still doesn’t work after that, check if your mysql database user has all privileges on your database — Wordfence needs privileges to create, alter, update, delete, truncate, etc. If the settings can’t be saved, it’s possible the tables couldn’t be created, or once they’re created, the database user doesn’t have the ability to add records to them. (If you do fix the database privileges, you might need to enable “Delete Wordfence tables and data on deactivation” near the bottom of the options page, then uninstall Wordfence and reinstall it again to get a fresh set of the table.)

Sorry for the delay in getting back.

Well diagnosed this was a database issue not a WordFence issue I had other site problems as well.

All fixed, thank you for your fast response and putting me in the right direction.
