• Hi everyone,

I’m a beginner, I use a mac mini as a server and I made a website using wordpress and XAMPP. I receive hosting services from an IT company. When I told them to publish my website, they asked about the IP address of my computer so that they can direct the hosting to my IP. I found the IP address by googling what is my IP but that IP address was my routers address, and therefore when they used that IP and I tried to open my webpage, my routers page opened.

Do any of you know how can I learn the IP address of my server/website so that I can provide it to the IT company?

    Thanks in advance.

  • You cannot do what you are trying to do. You would need a web server running on your local machine, a static IP, and a IP forwarder from the router to the local machine.

You need to deploy the site on the hosting companies server through cpanel or whatever they use.

You CAN do what you are trying to do but you are going to need to setup port 80 on your router to port forward to your actual computers local LAN IP. Use a service like DyN DNS so that you can host without a static IP.

To get your computers IP (not your router), go to preferences and click on network. Somewhere in there you will find what you are looking for.

I know I am being extremely short but, there is enough stuff for self hosting that I can write a book here. Check out the following search results on Google:
