Two problems with excerpts

    Hello José,

    I have two problems with excerpts in your, otherwise, very nice plugin:

    1. A real bug, I think: If the number of words in the blog excerpt is smaller than the excerpt_length setting, then the last word in the excerpt is missing in div.slposts-block-excerpt. Add a space at the end of the excerpt text, and the last word is shown. So if you write in your blog the excerpt text ‘José Luis’, then your plugin shows ‘José’, but the text ‘José Luis ‘ produces ‘José Luis’.

    2. More a matter of taste: The setting auto_excerpt=true is fine, but in my view it should *only* create an automatic excerpt if the excerpt in the blog is missing/empty.

    Something else: In your installation instructions you mention the Shortcode option values TRUE and FALSE. These do not work; you should use true and false.

    Hi Henk,

    Thank you for your feedback, I couldn’t have noticed those bugs without your help, I really appreciate it. I’ve just uploaded version 1.2.4 which hopefully solves all these issues. Please update and let me know if it works as expected.

    I checked and you did it again! Solved within a few hours all issues mentioned.

    Thank you very much for your immediate action. I cannot imagine better support than this!

    One really, really minor thing left: If the excerpt is the complete excerpt text (meaning that is has not been cut off to fulfill the excerpt_length option setting) then it should not be followed by an ellipsis (‘…’).

    According to Wikipedia: “Ellipsis is a series of dots that usually indicate an intentional omission of a word, sentence or whole section from the original text being quoted”. You see… 🙂

    Hello Henk,

    Once again thank you for your feedback, it’s interesting that you pointed out the ellipsis. It’s true that usually when looking through the “developer’s glass” we tend to ignore grammar nuances like this one. Good catch, I have uploaded a quick fix for this, now ellipsis will be displayed only when excerpt length exceeds the limit imposed through the excerpt_length parameter. Please update and let me know if it works.
