Twitter embedding without parent tweet?

I understand that you can embed a tweet by simply pasting the URL of it in the visual editor, but how do I customize it to not include the parent tweet?

Pasting the entire code from twitter after unchecking “include parent tweet” doesn’t work since the wordpress editor seems to delete the portion of the code that excludes the parent tweet after saving, and wordpress.com shortcodes that are supposed to let you hide the conversation thread don’t work either.

Is there another way to do it?
