TwentyEleven content background colour issue

Please help as this is driving me crazy!

I have changed the background colour for my content and widgets however when the widget height exceeds the content it puts a white bar across the page. I need the entire background to be one colour.

I have tried various height 100% & overflow codes to no avail. Help!

I am using a child template of TwentyEleven.
