Events => Settings => Pages => Event Lists/Archives then select No under ‘Display calendar in events page?‘

Thanks for the quick reply but I am sure I’m running the latest version and I don’t see that option. Here’s my list:

At this point the best way to actually hide category view would be to follow this forum thread (http://tri.be/support/forums/topic/optionalhide-calendar-grid-display/), coupled with our themer’s guide (http://tri.be/support/documentation/events-calendar-themers-guide/).
