Before changing the server to point to the new location, change the WordPress address (URI) and Blog address (URI) on the Options page to what the new address of the blog *will be*. Then change the server config to point to the right place.
That is basically that, except for editing your posts for any absolute URLs you manually put in.
Note that after you change those two addresses, the blog may become inaccessible until you change the server to match.
It’s always a good idea to make sure that you keep a backup of your WordPress install directory and make a backup of your database before attempting anything.
There’s a good article in the WP Codex on Moving your WP install.
if i am right when you move your blog to some part of your website folder you will loose your rank ,search result every thing think of it ok make your http://www.domain.com.blog and main index page using cpanel
Ok, so I was able to make the changes to the blog by doing the whole WordPress address (URI) and Blog address (URI) on the Options page thingy. Now the only problem I have is that images that are inside posts that were uploaded using wordpress are not showing up. When I rightclick on them and go to properties, it shows that they are linked to what the old address was. Is there a fix to change there errors or must I go it all manually?
I’ll probably be kicking myself because the steps involved may be very easy, but here’s my problem: I have a free WordPress.com account where my current blog resides. But I recently opened a bluehost.com account and wanted install wordpress 2 on the server and then migrate all my posts, comments, pictures, and links from my current blog over to the new host site where my new blog will be (same content, different URI). However, even with the book “WordPress2” by Maria Langer and Miraz Jordan, and looking at suggestions on this site, I cannot find any information on how to import a blog from a free WordPress.com account to the wordpress program. You can easily import from Blogger, Movable Type, and a few other services, but for some reason, exporting from wordpress.com to wordpress 2 is not a common thing. On bluehost, I used the Fantastico set up after spending too many hours trying to set up my blog using the “5 minute install,” and most of my current blog imported. However, I can’t seem to get the comments imported. Any suggestions on resovling this issue? Thanks!
