Traffic hit counter – any simple solution?

Hi all, I have a client that requested a simple hit counter at the bottom of their website. I have set up google analytics, but they wanted something that other users could see when they visit the site. I took a look through WordPress plugins, and most of them seem outdated. I’m also quite nervous about using any third part site, except possibly statcounter.com.

Does anyone have a suggestion of a good solution for this, or should I suggest to them not to have a counter for security purposes?
