Which theme, where did you get that?
The theme is Zenon Lite by Towfiq. I downloaded it from the wordpress themes.

I would like a small image to the left of the Home menu item

For this change you’ll need to make a Child Theme.
and then after making a child theme how do I put the image in_

Copy & paste header.php from the theme and into your Child Theme.
Then, edit header.php in your Child Theme and replace all of the code with this http://pastebin.com/gQme9ui9 .
