I am trying your sermon manager after using the other sermon browser for years. I noticed that when I deleted a file off of your sermon manager it still left the file (mp3) in the media library and it also left it on my hosting site. The old sermon browser, when you deleted a mp3 file, it totally deleted it. I think it would be good that your sermon manager deletes the file completely and not just from the sermon list so you do not have build up of old mp3 files sitting in the media library and slowing down the web site.

  • Hi,

The only two ways to remove an mp3 file are:

    • Clicking on “Delete Permanently” in WordPress Media Manager
    • Physically removing it by FTP/File Manager plugin/custom script (not recommended, because there will still be a link in WordPress database that will continue pointing to a non-existing file)

By removing a sermon, the associated audio file will not be deleted; and we will not modify the current behavior.

Also, we recommend our users to use Amazon S3 or similar off-site hosting, for multiple reasons:

    • Most likely your hosting provider does not allow you to store mp3 files on your server, so storing them at some off-site location is a smart move
    • Files are more secure – if your website server gets hacked, mp3 files won’t be accessible by them
    • Bandwidth and storage space savings – you won’t unnecessarily use your server space and bandwidth (which also saves cost)

Also, old mp3 files will not slow down your website, but they will use storage space.
