Top Level Administration Menu

    Hi there
    I am new to WP and so sorry if this is a bit of a silly question…

    I have just read http://codex.wordpress.org/Administration_Menus and within the code block under “Inserting Page” is the following code comment:

    // Add a new top-level menu (ill-advised):

    I would love to understand why it is ill advised to add a top level menu. I have sites where we have a number of custom sections (if that is the right terminology) and grouping them together would make for a nicer look/feel for the admin area.

    I hope someone can enlighten the pros / cons to this WP newbie.

    That comment is aimed specifically at plugin developers who are being encouraged to add their plugin page(s) to the Tools or Settings sub-menus.
