Too many thumbnails created!

    hi
    im new to wordpress!

    when i add an image manually to a post, it creates more than 16thumbnails in the wp-content/uploads/year/month folder! it uses lots of space!
    my original image size is about 75kb. all the 16 thumbnails created are above 532kb.

    under settings- > media
    Image sizes i use are only (Thumbnail size) and (Medium size)

    and i don’t use any kinda of plugins for creating thumbnails!
