Your blog needs a lot of work, here are a few quick things you can improve on.
1) I would suggest you to go with a different theme, quite a few things of this theme is not looking good, the background image is a bit too loud, the header does not seems good… the sidebar should be on the other side, as you said it yourself, you want to make it look better. Try a magazine theme, that will make your blog look fuller.
2) apart from that, get some more social media attention to your blog, get a twitter profile and a facebook fan page, get some social buttons and setup a feedburner feed signup, etc.
3) Get a good logo, something brandable.

@waller93, definitely a better looking theme and the background image is good too… over all, it is better now. Keep adding more content, write bigger articles… and yes, get a good logo or a better header.

Built it seperately from wordpress with a wysiwyg editor, then found wordpress to be much better so I changed my original site to link to my new wordpress page as I still had my domain parking in place.

Yeah that enter page has to go. Why give your visitors an extra step just to get to your content? On the blog itself I agree with others that you need a new header logo and a less noisy background. Check out :
http://subtlepatterns.com/ if you’re looking for a gentle, free, background pattern. Also, You’re mixing styles with the logo being an old-school, 8-bit, pixelated style and the smooth WordPress theme. You should pick one or the other.
Also, and I’m not sure if it’s just my browser, but your Adsense blocks between each post are not showing up and just look like a weird block of white space.
