thumbnails stretch in Internet Explorer

when i upload my thumbnails to a post, using the [gallery] tag, everything looks perfect in every single browser except IE. IE does not seem to resize the height of the thumbnail, so everything looks stretched. this is the last thing i have to fix on my site. any ideas are appreciated.
