Thumbnails in slider do not show

Master Slider : 2.9.6
Wordpress : 4.7.3 / 4.7.2
PHP : 5.5.37
MySQL : 5.0.11

for some reason the thumbnails for the slider are not showing. the squares are there just not the thumbnails
