There are no shortcodes available

I want to set up a page with the monthly calendar but there are no shortcodes available. I wanted to attach an image so you can see it but I don’t see where I can do that. There are not shortcodes. It does have a place for ad shortcodes but I didn’t see anything about this in the getting started video. What is up with this? Is it normal or is this a bug or something broke in my installation?
