Theme loads jQuery incorrectly, plugin loses functionality

    The plugin’s key features (i.e. search, sort alphabetically, selecting number of rows to display, etc.) do not work. All I see is the following: http://indr.org/?page_id=1871

    Our current theme is WPMU-Triden, Version 2.1.5.

    I have discovered that my theme is calling an old version of jQuery which is over-riding the current version (i.e. the one coupled with WordPress 3.6). I was suggested, by another plugin developer, to look in the theme’s functions.php file, where there should be a reference to an “enqueue” line where it is loading jQuery incorrectly. If I simply remove it, the plugin should work.

    However, I am skeptical of this. Also, I am unsure which line they are referring to.

    How can I stop my theme from calling an older version of jQuery, so that this (and future) plugins can become fully functional?

    Hi,

    thanks for your question.

    Yes, those hints are correct, your theme is loading a very old version of jQuery, which it should not do.

    The only way to fix this is to modify the theme and to remove the line similar to

    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://indr.org/wp-content/themes/wpmu-triden/js/dropmenu.jquery.js"></script>

    Most likely that line is in the “functions.php” or “header.php”.
    (The hint with the “enqueue” line is usually correct, but here it looks like your theme is also using a different/manual loading mechanism.)

    If you still can’t find it, I suggest that you contact the theme developer or theme support about this, as they know their code better than I do.

    Many thanks. Your suggested similar line was located in the header.php file for our theme.
