I have been installing themes regularly to test them. There are six in my theme folder as we speak. I just FTP’d four more. I can now see the new themes via FTP client, cPanel, and I also see the files in both local/remote in Dreamweaver. But they do not appear in my wp manager ‘presentation/theme installer’. And I now removed two of the originals and it is still in the wp manager. I have been working on this for a few hours but this seems pretty basic. I tried two other browsers…thoughts? Thanks

  • thoughts? yes plenty.

you uploaded them to the wronng place, perhaps… dont mistake symlinks like www/ and consequently www/wp-content/themes as a real place. thats a symlink.

Use public_html or whatever corresponding directory name your server is set up for as the starting path for uploads.

public_html/wp-content/themes (assuming your blog is installed at your site root).

heres a quick way to check, again assuming your blog is installed at your site root..

you ought to be able to navigate to http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-content/themes/yourthemenamehere/style.css and see it. If you cant, its not in the proper place.

ok, i walked away for a few minutes. i logged out. started over – is there a limit to the number of themes that can be sitting in the wp manager?

    whooami – i owe you!

did not solve it yet but i plugged in a known link that worked. and then one that had what i thought was a newly added theme – nada. now i have to figure out where the new ones are sitting. but wait. what about the ones i deleted? probably same problem.

rereading this i sound a bit manic. i think i am done until tomorrow. r

After a night’s rest and reexaming, the uploads were correct. But the concept of reexaming the “real” links caused me to go to my ISP. I had recently migrated servers from Plesk to cPanel and did not reconfigure the nameservers for this site so I was actually tweaking the old files sitting on another server. Thanks for the help. R
