I want to change the image in the header from the default to a custom image but I can’t find where to make the change.

I see James’ snippets to change the circle image in the Highwind header but I do not have the first clue how to use a snippet. Can someone tell me how to do this? In detail? I am not a web designer (obviously). I love the theme and would hate to abandon it because of this.
