Theme customization issue

Hi, i have a website which i started few months ago. I am new to wordpress and stuff. Basically i need help in customization of the theme and specifically homepage. Like i want my site to show posts etc like normal but i want to have custom homepage like i wanna design etc. I dont know if there is a option available for this or not? if yes then please guide me, i need help.
Also, when i tried editing the code of the main theme, it got broke, i somehow got it back to default though.
