The WordPress Support Forums

Are the support forums “categorized” effectively? Do you think there should be more categories? Fewer? How would you organize them?
This is a discussion only. I make no promises that any suggestion gets integrated into this site.
Let’s hear what you have to say.

Matt, those websites you mentioned, are they currently running? Are they successful?
Ming that’s a good idea. I think i’m going to go with my idea and start a community, knowledge base, tutorial wiki, downloads, repository for links, some kind of news system for certain people to update on the main page with news. heck, turn it into a community put a gallery for people to display their blogs (like gallery.menalto.org does with displaying people who run their gallery system) even a dating thing, top sites, etc. etc.
Rather than fork bbPress I think we should fork Matt and Ryan. I don’t know if cloning is still legal here in Canada but if not, I know the perfect dark alley.
Everyone would win. By competing clones against developers we will get even more amazing code. Plus, the winning group (clones or originals) would get to absord the other, like in that Superman movie.
Brain_rot, they’re all running. See my post above yours.
ahh i missed that! thanks for pointing them out 🙂
Oh, gawd, not more WordPress sites!!! I’m having enough trouble keeping up with what is here. It’s a lot of work, and even more work to “monitor” these for brilliance or stupidity.
Please, I love the enthusiasm, but put it somewhere where it will generate more enthusiasm instead of diluting the blood. As Macmanx and Matt said, there are a ton of places to find more than enough WordPress info, including a constantly going live chat on the IRC.

Do we need more? Honestly? Let’s make what is here the BEST and stop spreading the energy around. Just because you think you can do it better, why not work to make what we have better. Focus, please!
@brain_rot,
To the best of my knowledge, the two sites Matt is referring to are neither still going nor were successful.I have a suggestion for the forums !
Please can we have a forum that is specific to all uses of WP with all varieties of gallery type program ?
This is a constant traffic, and falls between both products. So either we support, or we do not. I reckon we will end up supporting, but it is a niche thing, so why not a forum just for this issue ?Podz, a separate forum or a category within this forum?
I’d love to see the addition (some I’ve mentioned before) of Themes, and another for Graphics and Galleries, since there are so many questions.
Same forum, but a different forum 🙂
Like we have Misc, and Your WordPress, have one for “Image Galleries” – the name would need thought though as otherwise users of something like minigal (GREAT prog, now at v2, get it at http://www.minigal.dk) would think they couldn’t post in it if it was called “Gallery”
Another issue: in Opera 7.x, when I post, the page never refreshes (I stay on the same page with my post in the Reply box). I have to click stop and refresh the page. Not sure if this is an Opera issue or what.
MS *shudder* moved to a task rather than a system paradigm in all their manuals some years ago. If we went down that route the categories would evolve into being task specific. We would then need to think in terms of howtos. Each accompanied by a link possibly to a another source of reference. Obvious candiadates would be similar to what we have now. How to install, Howto to manage themes, Howto adapt the default theme, howto upgrade from 1.2, How to fix up plugins, How to use Wp, . Just a thought.
I’d suggest a 1.2 section so that nobody has to ask which version the questioner is using ever again. If it doesn’t get any traffic it could always be scrapped.
‘Your WordPress’ could also, I think, be scrapped without anyone suffering unduly. It clutters the front page with announcements, has nothing to do with support and there are better ways to showcase WordPress blogs (webrings, topsites, directories, ‘recently updated’ lists like b2, lists of donators like MT…)
A ‘#Top’ button would be nice ?
Not sure just where down here, but it would be a neat addition to navigation.Blessed be to the powers that be, the edit is back. Haleluyah!
Thank you thank youthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthanky outhankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthank youthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthank
youthankyou.Oh, and did I say thank you?
NM I f we are thinking in terms of futher cats / sub cats on the forum what about RFP. (Requests for Proposals). It would separate out the professional designers and clients and every one would benefit without being embarrassed about it.
