Text Field Email Tag Not Working
-
Hello. I am setting up two donation forms with a single text field in each. I need to output the value of those text fields in the notification emails. I have copied the email tags from the “Advanced” section of the field settings into my admin and donor email templates, however the value does not show up when I get a donation. The value does show up in the donation confirmation (after the submit button is clicked), and on the donation information page in the admin area.
To troubleshoot, I have deleted the fields and created new ones with new meta keys, and the value still does not show up in the notification emails. Any ideas what could be causing this issue?
My website is under development and currently in maintenance mode. I can send you a login if you need it for troubleshooting.
Thanks!

Hi @celeste-9 ,
Glad you reached out! Happy to help.
If you have any kind of caching plugins, I would suggest disabling them first and then trying to see if the issue persists.
If that doesn’t solve it, you need to check for possible conflicts. Here is what you should do:
Step 1: Disable Plugins
- In the dashboard, navigate to the “Plugins” menu on the left sidebar. You will see a list of all your installed plugins. Select the checkboxes next to the plugins you want to disable.
- After deactivating the plugins, visit your website to see if the issue has been resolved. If it’s fixed, the problem was likely caused by one of the plugins.
Step 2: Enable Plugins One by One
- To identify the specific plugin causing the issue, re-enable your plugins one at a time.
- After reactivating each plugin, check your website to see when the issue reappears. This will help you pinpoint the problematic plugin.
- Once you identify the problematic plugin, you can leave it deactivated, update it, or seek support for a fix.
Step 3: Troubleshoot Themes
If the issue persists even after deactivating plugins, you may need to check if your theme is causing the problem.- Go to the “Appearance” menu in your dashboard.
- Click on “Themes” to see the list of installed themes.
Step 4: Activate a Default Theme
- Activate a default WordPress theme, like Twenty Twenty or Twenty Twenty-One. To accomplish this, click the “Activate” button on the default theme you want to use.
- Check your website to see if the issue is resolved. If it is, your original theme may be causing the issue.

Hi Robin, thank you for the reply. I did everything you recommended and the problem is still happening.
I have narrowed down the issue: the text field data is only missing from “Offline Donation” admin emails. It shows up correctly for the standard “New Donation” admin emails that we receive when the donor pays by credit card. I am using the exact same email message and tags on both admin emails (copied from one to the other).
Do you know what would cause the text field data to show up on the standard admin email, but not on the offline donation email?
I can send you a screenshot if that would be helpful.
Thanks again for your help!

Hi @celeste-9 ,
Thank you for your detailed description of what you did to reproduce the issue for narrowing it down as well.
I was able to replicate this on a test site, and I’ve filed a bug for it as well in here — https://feedback.givewp.com/bug-reports/p/offline-donation-instructions-emails-and-admin-new-offline-donation-emails-shoul.
I don’t have a timeline for it, but I linked this post into the report so that we can update it when a fix comes out.
Furthermore, I don’t have a workaround for it. I did notice that the bug was only isolated to the offline donations emails, and other emails were not affected.
I am marking this as resolved for now, as we have identified the cause of it, and I will update this post as well when a fix for it has been released.
Should you have further questions regarding this, or if you need additional information, you can post it in here, and I’ll hop back in to assist.
Thank you for using GiveWP!
Have a pleasant weekend.
