My business offers a service that is not taxable in my state. Do I have to program woo commerce to facilitate taxes in each customers state? In other words, If someone from another sate purchases my service which is taxable in their state, do I include those taxes on my end or are they buying my service in my state which is tax free? I sell EPKs and websites and do marketing.

    Hi there!

That’s correct. For example, if a customer from Texas buys something from your WooCommerce shop in New York, you’d be charging them the appropriate tax for Texas, not New York.

You can read more about setting up taxes in WooCommerce here:

I was under the understanding that i did not have to apply sales taxes in a state unless I had sales tax nexus in that state. For example, my business does not have any assets in the state of California that is any ties therefore I do not have sales tax nexus.

We can’t speak to tax laws, that is something you’ll need advice from elsewhere 🙂

We can help you configure tax rules, but can’t speak as to what rules you need to legally follow.

Services like this can help automate this all for you though: https://woocommerce.com/products/taxjar/
