• I’ve been asked by a client to take over the design of an existing site. The previous designer is overseas and has not responded to emails. I have access to the site via hosting and ftp, but the wp-admin seems to be missing.

The site lacks content but is already set up in terms of payment gateways, security, and smpt. I also have access to the site’s php/admin.

Can anyone suggest the proper course of action? I am a designer, with only minimal coding skills. The site can be found at https://www.olivetreemortuary.com/

  • Hi Janet,

If you don’t have access to the email address associated with an Admin user account and you’ve got access to the database, your can modify the password through PHPMyAdmin. You can find the instructions in the Codex over here.

If you have access to an Admin email account, you could just use the standard password reset via the automatic emailer.

    Cheers,

    Rob

Thanks, Rob. But after downloading the entire website onto a local drive, I realized that the existing site is a bootstrap site. I’ve been able to make some small modifications using Dreamweaver, but I would really like to explore the possibility of converting the site to WordPress. I think it’s best to close this topic and start a new one.

No problem. Glad you’re making progress.

The site is definitely using WordPress one way or another. I’m wondering if it isn’t some kind of caching that’s serving it the way it is now.

If the client has the budget, I’d definitely suggest recreating it with WordPress. The content and layout is pretty much there so it shouldn’t be a major job to recreate it. It’ll also be much easier to maintain going forward.
