not by itself. You would need a plugin that handles creating tags, or I believe there’s a tagcloud for cats plugin.

Is there a plugin that would add a new field tags to each post and based on that display the tag cloud (similar to that of bbpress)? I think tag cloud based on categories would be very limited.

It can be a bit “complex” appearing at first, but it’s pretty slick. 🙂
The built-in online help can be quite useful too.
Looks like this plugin requires a bit of tweaking, but if it does what it claims to do I think it’s worth it.
Ok, I’ve got it working, looks really cool.
The only thing is, the tags have to be separated by comma so you can have a tag made of few words, which is a good thing but if user forgets to put ‘,’ one big and ugly tag will be created, which will have to be fixed through options->tags->manage tags and then delete and tidy tags. But I guess nothing’s perfect.
