I’m trying to use a tablepress table on a category page. This table works in a post but doesnt work in this category.

Can you now please explain, where exactly you want a table to appear on that page, and what you are getting instead?
(The problem might simply be that your theme does not show the entire post content on a category page, so that Shortcodes are not evaluated there.)

I just put the table back in category’s introductory content section (wordpress thesis) and it does not work. This same table works perfectly in the following post – http://www.sightwordsgame.com/alphabet/letters-worksheets/.

ah, thanks! Now I see what’s going on.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing that I can do about this, as this is exactly the issue I mentioned above. Your theme simply does not evaluate Shortcodes on category pages, as it probably uses the WordPress function the_excerpt() there, and not the_content(). This would have to be changed in the theme, to make Shortcodes work. There’s nothing that can be done about this in TablePress directly. Sorry.
