Siteground migrated my site from WPengine to their WordPress hosting this morning. I reviewed everything on my site hosted at Siteground to make sure that nothing had changed. The only difference I found was that your TablePress Extension: Larger Edit Input Fields plugin was deactivated.

When I activated it I got the warning “The plugin generated 3 characters of unexpected output during activation. If you notice “headers already sent” messages, problems with syndication feeds or other issues, try deactivating or removing this plugin.”

After getting that warning I deactivated the plugin for my same site still at WPengine. When I reactivated the plugin I got the same warning. The plugin has worked fine at WPengine since I installed it several months ago, but this warning message concerns me.

I am running TablePress version 1.7 and version 1.0 of the extension.

I had to remove the plugin. When I changed a password in WordPress I got the message, “Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at …/public_html/wp-content/plugins/tablepress-edit-field-size-disabled/tablepress-edit-field-size.php:1) in …/public_html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 914”

When I logged out and tried logging back in to my site I just got a white page. Removing the folder for the plugin fixed the white page problem.

    Please advise.

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

This indicates that the plugin’s PHP file “tablepress-edit-field-size-disabled/tablepress-edit-field-size.php” contains a “byte order mark” (BOM) with it’s UTF-8 encoding.

All that should be necessary is to remove this BOM in a text editor program. Usually, they have an option for this in their “File” menu or under “Save as”. Could you maybe check that?

    Regards,
    Tobias

Thank you, Tobias. I didn’t find the byte order mark, but reinstalling the plugin has apparently fixed the problem.

    Hi Fran,

yes, that should also work, as the original files do not come with the byte order mark.
Good to hear that this worked! 🙂

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
