Switching from one theme to another

  • jepstein73

    @jepstein73

    I’m currently testing out the functionality of several themes to narrow down which to keep. Is there a way I can save my settings for each theme?

    For example,

    Theme 1 has a static front page, a slider and various other widgets.

    Theme 2 has a blog page template, no slider and different widgets.

    Switching themes, however, saves the settings of the current theme and applies them to the new one. I would like to be able to keep the settings of each. Is it possible through native WordPress options or is there a plugin that can accomplish this? I’ve tried a few of the better reviewed Backup plugins but none of them save the layouts and such.

    Switching themes…saves the settings of the current theme and applies them to the new one.

    In a sense, yes, since WordPress tries to at least put active widgets somewhere. But then after you actually set things for each new theme, including Child Themes, WordPress remembers those specific settings that theme or child and should restore them each time that theme or child is again activated.
