Swapping from Codecanyon

What is the correct way to swap over, upload this new plugin then delete the old one and all the setting get saved & swapped over? (not worried about premium just yet)
Thanks

Hi,
Good news: the old plugin does not delete anything when you remove it. It has no uninstall routine, so WordPress deletes its files while its settings and the tracking stored on your orders stay in the database and the new plugin reads them from there, not from the old plugin, which doesn’t even need to be active. The sequence I’d suggest:
- Deactivate the old plugin. Don’t delete it yet — this just stops both plugins from adding the tracking to your emails at the same time.
- Install and activate the new one. Your settings are migrated on the first admin page load: the tracking messages (every language, if you run WPML or Polylang) and the order statuses the tracking is shown on.
- Check them under Shipping Tracking → Messages, Settings and Shipping companies — your custom carriers come across too.
- Open a couple of recent orders. Each order’s tracking (carrier, number, dispatch date) is converted the first time it’s loaded, so there is no bulk operation to run and nothing to wait for. Orders you never open stay as they are and convert whenever you do open them, even months from now.
- Once you’re happy, delete the old plugin.
Two things worth knowing: the migration never overwrites anything you have already set up in the new plugin, and it never deletes the old plugin’s data. And some of the old options have no equivalent here (some options have unusefull option have been removed) so don’t be alarmed if the settings page looks shorter.
Thanks for the quick reply 🙂
Couple things after updating –
The tick box for ‘switch order to completed has gone’ – (since your last update on codecanyon that has been causing us email skips) Error: data not accepted. SMTP server error: DATA END command failed. (is that a premium button?)
The button in the individual order screen to track the order has gone, I can press it the main order screen, i.e. is it possible to click and be lead to DPD etc (is that button premium?)
Can’t see no way of setting a custom company as default
Once you swap over it deletes your all your custom companies in the original plugin, not good if you want to swap back.
You’ve changed some of the codes like [url_track] & [company_name] etc, cheeky beaky 🙂
No doubt I’ll buy the lifetime licence, just a few little things I’ve noticed
All done … it’s in 1.0.12, out now!
Default shipping company: under Shipping Tracking → Shipping companies there’s now a “Default carrier” box. Custom companies can be the default too. It only preselects the dropdown when an order has no tracking yet — nothing is written to an order until you save it.
The tracking link is back on the order screen, right under the tracking number.
The custom companies: you were right and my earlier answer was wrong. The migration does clear the old plugin’s custom companies once it has imported them, and the same goes for each order’s old tracking fields as they get converted. In all honesty, I changed my mind about how to handle custom companies so many times while building this plugin that the FAQ ended up describing a plan from three versions earlier, and I never caught it 😄 It’s fixed now, and it says what actually happens: nothing is lost, but going back isn’t clean, so take a database backup first if you want a way out.
The “switch order to completed” tick box I deliberately haven’t restored. In the old plugin it was a shortcut for something WooCommerce already does: set the tracking and change the status with WooCommerce’s own dropdown in the same save, click Update once, and the tracking is stored before the completed email is composed (so it lands in the email exactly as before). I tested that specifically before deciding. If you ever see a completed email go out without the tracking block, tell me straight away: that would be a real bug.
The placeholders:
[url_track]and[company_name]are unchanged, honest 🙂. Along with[tracking_number],[order_id],[order_url]and[dispatch_date]. What did change is that[custom_text]is now part of Premium. If a message of yours stopped rendering, paste it here and I’ll spot the culprit.Four of your five points turned into real fixes, so thank you for taking the time to write them up.
And if the plugin and/or the support have been useful so far, please consider leaving a review!! It’s most of how a small plugin gets found, and I’d genuinely appreciate it! 😃
For the placeholders I was using different codes that worked with the old plugin, I should have wrote them down for you to see.
Our warehouse girls are moaning that completing an order takes longer now having to select the dropdown instead of ticking a box and update. Not sure there is a quicker way for them to do it, they moan about any changes to be fair
Hi Mark,
Never make the warehouse girls angry! the new 1.0.13 version is out now! There’s a “Mark this order as completed” switch on the order screen, right under the tracking (appears on orders that are not completed yet). Type the number, flick the switch, press Update. And if that’s always their flow, turn on “Tick it by default” under Shipping Tracking → Settings: the switch then starts on for every order, so it’s back to typing the number and pressing Update, nothing else. It’s off out of the box, so nobody completes an order they only opened to look at.
Please remember the review, it would help me a lot! 😀
Ideal!
Its not available for me on my website yet, it’s still showing 1.0.12 is the latest, I’ll have another look later
Many thanks
