Support for the WP Consent API
-
Hello PrivacyBee team
We use PrivacyBee on several WordPress websites and are missing support for the WP Consent API (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-consent-api/).
The WP Consent API is the WordPress-wide standard through which a consent plugin tells other plugins which categories a visitor has consented to (statistics, marketing, preferences, etc.). Plugins that set cookies or collect data read the consent through this interface, so they don’t need to know each consent plugin individually. Many widely used consent plugins already support the WP Consent API.
Currently, PrivacyBee only reports consent through its own events (privacybee:ready, privacybee:consent-changed) and window.PrivacyBee. As a result, plugins that follow the WordPress standard never learn about the visitor’s consent. We are bridging this with our own JavaScript for now, but in our view this belongs in the plugin, so that PrivacyBee works with other plugins on any WordPress website without extra code.
Is support for the WP Consent API planned?
A side note: according to your article “JavaScript-Events und API des PrivacyBee Cookie-Banners”, restoring a saved consent also fires privacybee:consent-changed with explicitConsent: false. The current cookie-banner.js doesn’t do this; only privacybee:ready is fired. Either the documentation or the code should be adjusted.
Thank you and kind regards
